January 2022 – Unipart Logistics has been awarded a prestigious Globe of Honour for the ninth consecutive year for outstanding environmental management.
Unipart Logistics qualified for the Globe of Honour by achieving the British Safety Council five-star environmental sustainability audit. The Council recognised how Unipart has embraced circular economy principles at an organisational level. Here are three examples.
Designing out waste and pollution
Unipart Logistics has long worked to eliminate single-use plastic from our supply chain, and last year made big strides with both customers and suppliers to reduce the use of plastic throughout its supply chain.
Keeping products and materials in use
Working with its packaging supplier, Unipart Logistics is introducing a closed-loop process where possible, through which cardboard is collected, recycled, and reused in its operations.
Regenerating sustainable systems
Unipart Logistics has moved to 100% renewable electricity, removing 6,000 tonnes of carbon from its operations, and has switched to LED lighting across its warehouse network. Unipart’s heavy goods vehicle fleet is being replaced with biofuel hydrotreated vegetable oil models, cutting carbon emissions by up to 90%.
The British Safety Council remarked on the introduction of digital technology into Unipart’s environmental management systems. In particular through the use of the new sustainability management software created by Unipart Technologies Group company Instrumentel, developed from its Paradigm Insight digital product. Using the latest technology, this Paradigm Insight software will link the network of sensors measuring water and energy consumption across Unipart sites.
Andy Pyne, Unipart Logistics Divisional Operations Director and Unipart Group Chief Sustainability Officer, said: “Only a few organisations in the world have achieved Globe of Honour nine consecutive times, reflecting our leadership in environmental sustainability. The British Safety Council was keen to recognise the hard work of our subject matter experts and the enthusiasm of all our colleagues who engaged with our sustainability agenda.
“The Paradigm Insight sustainability management software will give us greater accuracy, transparency, and consistency in reporting environmental performance indicators, driving us towards our UN Race To Zero Campaign objectives.”
