Unipart Dragon Boat team raises £2k for Maggie’s cancer care charity

19 colleagues from Unipart paddled and drummed their way along the River Thames as they competed in this year’s Abingdon Dragon Boat Race.

The fun event, which took place on 7th September 2014, was organised by the Rotary Club of Abingdon and saw 16 teams take part in a fun filled and exciting day of dragon boat racing.

Going by the name of Unipart’s Lean Machine, the team comprised; Dave Adams, Mark Barry, Kevin Campbell, Peter Collins, James Lackman, Paul Layland, Emma Maisey, Alex Marsh, Kamran Ramzan, Yasmin Ramzan, Lindsey Roberts, Mike Riordan, Bob Timbs, Ellie Tucker, Mr Tucker, Anthony Tuffs, Ben Vaughan, James Vaughan and Bruce Westwood.

With every race the Unipart team improved their times and though they didn’t manage to get into the rankings, they raised £2000 for their chosen charity Maggie’s Centres.

Maggie’s is a charity with centres located in the grounds of major NHS cancer hospitals, offering support that people with cancer, and their friends and relatives, desperately need. Maggie’s believe that professional, emotional and psychological support can change the way people live with cancer, helping them to become active participants in their treatment, take back control of their lives and not lose the ‘joy of living in the fear of dying’.

Unipart Group us supporting Maggie’s with a series of fundraising activities throughout 2014.
