Unipart has won a five-year, $32.9 million warehouse services management contract with Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is one of the oldest public transit systems in the United States, and the largest transit system in Massachusetts. As a division of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the MBTA provides subway, bus, commuter rail, ferry, and paratransit services to eastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island.
The full services within this contract include operation and management of the MBTA’s 200,000 sq. ft West Bridgewater warehouse, operation of 16 MBTA stockrooms located at bus garages and carhouses, and the delivery of inventory and other items between MBTA locations.
With more than 20,000 inventory parts at the West Bridgewater Warehouse, monthly activities currently include 6,700 picks, 950 receipts, and 60 ‘immediate deliveries’.
This new contract follows previous Unipart collaboration with MBTA through which Unipart companies Westcode and Instrumentel designed and built new Temperature Control Units for MBTA rail cars.
