Unipart Logistics Signs New Contract with Plastic Omnium

Plastic Omnium are a key supplier for Jaguar Land Rover, manufacturing front and rear bumpers for JLR’s aftermarket operation. UL has been working with Plastic Omnium since 2010: assembling, packing and shipping the bumpers.

UL Global Key Account Manager for Jaguar Land Rover Chris Brown explains, “Plastic Omnium’s business and our relationship with them has grown significantly from employing just 12 people producing 1,200 bumpers per week to a team of 63 colleagues in Canley producing around 3,000 bumpers.

“The new contract will see an even stronger partnership with Plastic Omnium. The scale of the operation is set to increase, with the contract taking the whole of the 144,000 sq. ft site at Canley, and an expected increase in volumes to 5,500 units per week with a new product launch at the end of the year.”

“A small team from Plastic Omnium will be based at the site alongside the UL team, working closely towards shared key performance indicators. Quality and productivity are measured daily through a joint team meeting and resolving issues in the line. This contract re-affirms Plastic Omnium’s confidence in the service we provide and our ability to grow with them at the Canley site.”

UL Operations Director for the Automotive Sector, Paul Briscoe, said, “As a result of the new contract we’re delighted that we will be able to increase the size of our team at Canley, including recruiting two additional Team Leaders and taking on some of our agency colleagues to permanent roles.”

“Plastic Omnium have already invested £1 million in two robotic cells that configure the bumpers more efficiently than the older machinery we have on site, and this has been a great opportunity for our team to develop their capability in this area.”
