At Unipart, we offer dynamic and future-focused graduate programmes designed to develop the next generation of leaders across the business. Graduates have ample opportunities to learn, connect, and build valuable relationships with colleagues, while gaining deep insights into every facet of business.
Graduates experience an 18-month programme with 3-6 month rotations across our UK sectors and sites, carefully tailored to their development goals. This isn’t just about gaining experience; it’s about building a robust foundation for future careers.
Ryan Mahdian joined us in September 2024 as a Supply Chain Graduate after studying Supply Chain Management at Glasgow Caledonian University. Ryan’s degree provided a strong foundation in logistics and operations, but more importantly, it sparked his interest in how supply chains can drive innovation and make a meaningful impact in the real world.
We asked Ryan to share his thoughts on the programme and his career aspirations as he approaches one year into the Unipart Graduate Programme.
Can you describe your current role and key responsibilities?
“As a Solution Design Engineer, I’m part of a team that designs and optimises warehouse operations for both new and existing clients. My responsibilities include data analysis, process mapping, resource and layout modelling, and developing solutions that enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
“What I enjoy most is the opportunity to turn data into actionable insights and see my ideas come to life in a real operational environment.”
How would you describe the structure of the programme?
“The graduate programme is built around six-month rotational placements across different departments. This structure has allowed me to gain exposure to a wide range of business areas while developing both technical and leadership skills.
“Each rotation brings unique challenges and opportunities, supported by structured training and mentoring. It’s a programme designed not only to build knowledge but to help you grow as a professional and as a person.”
What has been the most valuable part of the programme so far?
“I have really valued the chance to work on real projects and get involved in initiatives where I could see the direct impact of my work. Being trusted with responsibilities early on and applying what I’ve learned in practical settings has been incredibly rewarding.
“There’s a real sense of pride in knowing your contributions are helping to shape solutions that deliver value to customers.”
How has this programme shaped your career ambitions?
“When I joined, I didn’t have a clear vision of my future career or personal goals. Over time, through learning, exploring the business, and engaging with a variety of opportunities, I’ve developed a much clearer sense of direction. The programme has helped me discover where my strengths lie and given me the confidence to aspire to roles where I can combine technical expertise with strategic thinking.”
How has the training and development provided supported your growth?
“The combination of structured training, mentoring, and hands-on experience has been instrumental to my development. It’s not just about building technical skills – it’s about learning how to adapt, problem-solve, and work collaboratively in complex environments. The feedback and support I’ve received have also played a key role in helping me grow professionally.”
How would you describe the culture of the company and your team?
“The culture at Unipart is what truly sets it apart, The Unipart Way. It’s a people-focused organisation where support is always available – whether from your line manager or colleagues across the business. This level of support has given me the confidence to face new challenges, tackle unfamiliar situations, and step out of my comfort zone to explore new sets of challenges.
“The culture creates an environment where you feel empowered to grow and take on opportunities knowing there’s a strong support network behind you.”
