How Sky built a world-class circular economy model

The Challenge
As part of its ambitious Sky Zero programme, Sky was committed to transforming its operations to meet science-based sustainability targets.
The core challenge was translating this strategic vision into a practical and financially viable circular economy model, requiring a complete overhaul of its reverse logistics, waste management, and packaging processes to minimise its environmental footprint.
The Solution
In a close partnership, we designed and implemented a comprehensive solution underpinned by our circular economy services.
We established a dedicated recycling centre to manage all returned materials and fully embedded the ‘seven Rs’ of the circular economy into the operation. A key innovation was redesigning packaging, allowing customers to use the original box for returns, which eliminated waste and simplified the process.
The Impact
Our collaborative approach helped Sky turn its sustainability goals into a tangible operational and financial success, delivering significant savings in cost and carbon.
- Achieved a 99% recycling rate with zero waste to landfill
- Refurbished one million set-top boxes annually, preventing waste
- Removed 127 tonnes of single-use plastic from the supply chain
- Saved 610 tonnes of CO2 from distribution emissions
- Delivered £500,000 in cost savings over two years
