Mobile store van improves commissioning performance

The Challenge
Commissionings require significant planning to ensure they run smoothly, but unplanned requirements often arise on-site, such as the need for extra materials or replacement of damaged parts.
These additional requirements can add time to commissionings while new materials are sourced.
The Solution
To reduce this problem, Atkins asked Unipart to create a ‘Mobile Store Van’ for commissionings.
The van was equipped with a Kanban system and integrated with the stores IT systems for efficient check-out and replenishment. AtkinsRealis’ Senior Construction Manager Michael Barrington received the van at the Unipart Crewe site.

The Impact
Delivering performance
Unipart Project Manager, Steve Edwards, said, “We have fully stocked the van with a range of typical spare items that are required for a commissioning, and Atkins will only pay for those that are used.”
Increasing efficiency
This means that Atkins are less likely to require urgent or out-of-hours parts supply, increasing efficiency and making things easier.
